World Refugee Day 2023

Today is World Refugee Day, an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and “celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.”
 
World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.
 
The US Conference of Catholic Bishops offers these resources to help refugees. This includes outreach, education, advocacy, and donations.

Catholic Relief Services offers this prayer for refugees.

Sister Doreen Glynn, CSJ recently volunteered at Annunciation House in El Paso. She will share some reflections on her time there on Monday, June 21, during an interfaith Zoom event marking World Refugee Day.

The hour-long program begins at 7 p.m. Among others participating are representatives of the Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, and Protestant faiths. [The final list is still in formation.] Speakers will share selections from their sacred texts, prayers, and/or stories of what people of their faith are doing to help refugees.
